Welcome to Depew Fire Department Official Website

Welcome to the Depew Fire Department’s website. The Depew Fire Department protects just over 16,000 residents within 5 square miles of the Village of Depew.   The department consists of four hose companies, one hook and ladder company and one hose/ rescue company.  We proudly boast the largest volunteer fire department in the County of Erie and one of the largest in the State of New York, with over one hundred and forty members.  We respond to an average of 300 calls of emergencies throughout the year, including structure fires, motor vehicle accidents, rescue calls, traffic control, carbon monoxide alarms and many other types of emergencies.

Depew Firefighter Wounded in Afghanistan

Depew resident Brian Foote is recovering from injuries he sustained while serving in the U.S. Army in Afghanistan last month. Foote, 23, was struck in the chest by gunfire, he wrote in a Feb. 1 email to a friend that was provided to The Bee. He said he didn’t realize he had been shot until he realized he wasn’t using his left arm. The bullet remains in his chest, because, he said, “It will cause more damage to remove it [than] leave it in.” “The best part was that I was shot at about noon and I was released from the hospital around [3 p.m.] because for some reason, the bullet missed all of the bones and major arteries,” Foote wrote. “The bullet traveled about 8 to 10 inches, tearing muscle and tendons in my left shoulder, back and chest area.” Foote is the son of Alan, a past captain in Central Hose Co. No. 4, and Anne Marie Foote and brotherof Christopher Foote, a member of Central Hose Co. No. 4. Foote is not responding to therapy, and he may be going back to his unit’s base in Alaska for possible surgery. Foote, a Lancaster High School graduate, has been a member of the Depew Fire Department’s Hose Co. No. 1 since 2002. “He was a very good firefighter, ” Chief Gary Cummings said. “We hated to lose him, going into the service, because he was a very dedicated firefighter.” The department is soliciting good wishes and donations to help Foote with his care.
