The Depew Fire Department has an organization
for youth, The Explorer Post #37.
The Depew Fire Department sponsors
this organization for youth ages 14 to18 who live in the Depew area. Explorers do most of the training that firefighters do.
The object of this organization is to expose the youth in this area to volunteerism and the job of firefighting. Explorers
have control over their organization and have monthly meetings. The Explorers elect a President, Captain/Vice-President, 1st
Lieutenant, and a Secretary/Treasurer. The Explorer Post also goes on many trips, such as the New York State Fire Chiefs Convention
in Syracuse, NY this past June. Explorers also respond and help out at emergencies.
Explorers can respond to fire
calls and help out at our incidents. They are given turnout gear and can also train with us. It is important to
point out that Explorers will not be placed in any hazardous situation, and will not actually fight fires.
If you are living in the Depew
area and are 14 to 18 years old, we would like you to try out this program. To join, all you have to do is show up at one
of our three fire stations on a Tuesday night around 7:30 PM or leave us an email. This is a very fun learning experience
where you gain knowledge in firefighting, skills in leadership and volunteerism, and make many friends as you become part
of the big family called the fire service.
